'Dear Great Plains' features Hernandez Torrijos' storyteller work

Nebraska's Karla Hernandez Torrijos served as the Great Plains Art Museum's first student storyteller in residence. Her work is featured in "Dear Great Plains," an exhibition opening Nov. 1 at the museum.

Nebraska’s Karla Hernadez Torrijos spent the last year asking people to write messages on postcards to the Great Plains. The project, part of the Center for Great Plains Studies’ new Student Storyteller in Residence initiative, will be on view at the Great Plains Art Museum starting with a First Friday celebration on Nov. 1.

Hernandez Torrijos, a sophomore English major at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, is a poet and workshop facilitator who has read at numerous venues, including The Bay, El Museum Latino and the Wick Alumni Center.
