Dates set for MLK Week community service opportunities


The University of Nebraska–Lincoln will honor the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. during the MLK Week Celebration Jan. 22-26.

This year’s theme is “Compassionate Actions.” The MLK Week Planning Committee announced upcoming dates for community service opportunities with local nonprofit agencies. These service opportunities are open to the entire campus community.

The following is a schedule of community service days and locations:

  • Jan. 22: Good Neighbor Community Center and Mourning Hope Grief Center

  • Jan. 23: Malone Center and Center for People in Need

  • Jan. 24: Matt Talbot Kitchen and Outreach and People City Mission

  • Jan. 25: Food Bank of Lincoln and Asian Community and Cultural Center

  • Jan. 26: Educare of Lincoln and Community Action

More information, available time slots and registration for volunteers is now online.

MLK Week will culminate with the MLK Commemorative Celebration at 6 p.m. Jan. 30. Additional events, including a Late Night Dish It Up and a performance by Kinetic Lights, are also planned.
