Under a wash of yellow and orange lights, Alex Gryczanowski cranks up the energy at the Bourbon Theatre during the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Battle of the Bands event Sept. 30. Part of this year’s “Cosmic Cornhuskers” homecoming celebration, the event brought student bands together for a night of live music, competition and a chance to pump up the Big Red spirit.

Gryczanowski, a senior journalism and broadcasting double major, performed with her band, Eden Park. The group took home the event’s top prize of $750.

Nebraska’s annual fall celebration continues Oct. 2 with the homecoming parade and Cornstock Festival, where Huskers can grab some food, enjoy music and activities, and take in a drone show. The parade begins at 6:30 p.m., with Cornstock festivities continuing at Memorial Stadium’s East Plaza.

The celebration builds to a finale Oct. 3, when Husker football faces Maryland at Memorial Stadium. At halftime, the 2026 homecoming royalty will be crowned.
