The Nebraska Conference for Undergraduate Wisdom in Mathematics is coming to campus Jan. 30-Feb. 1.
Now in its 28th year, conference has brought together more than 5,000 undergraduate students to share their research, learn about graduate school and careers in mathematics, and to be inspired by a wide array of decorated plenary speakers and panelists.
This year’s conference welcomes plenary speakers Erica Graham, associate professor and chair of mathematics at Bryn Mawr College; Suzanne Sindi, professor of mathematics at University of California, Merced; and Carol Woodward, distinguished member of the technical staff at Lawrence Livermore National Lab, along with nearly 250 enthusiastic undergraduate participants from around the country.
Graham’s plenary address, "Accidentally on Purpose: The Mathgic of Unintended Paths," will take place as part of the opening session, which is open to the general public, beginning at 3:40 p.m. Jan. 30 in the second floor auditorium of Nebraska Union. The remainder of the conference will be held at the Embassy Suites in downtown Lincoln. For more information about NCUWM, please see the conference website.
The conference began in 1999 following the UNL Math Department's receipt of a 1998 Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics and Engineering Mentoring. NCUWM also received the American Mathematics Society's 2013 Award for Mathematics Programs that Make a Difference, and in 2025, it was honored with the Association for Women in Mathematics Presidential Recognition Award for "its long-standing dedication to fostering a supportive community for undergraduate women in mathematics and to strengthening the pipeline of women advancing to graduate study."
