Lauren Flickinger (front) and Chloe Mann, both senior civil engineering majors, cheer as they return to the shore after competing in the female sprint of the Concrete Canoe Competition at Holmes Lake on April 5. The event was part of the American Society of Civil Engineers' Mid-America Student Symposium, hosted April 3-5 by the University of Nebraska–Lincoln's College of Engineering.
More than 400 engineering students and faculty from six states will attended, testing their professional skills and demonstrating the innovation and creativity of future engineers. Events included the design, fabrication and racing of concrete canoes; building of steel and 3D-printed bridges; and surveying.
