A panel discussion moderated by Nebraska’s Sergio Wals will explore the topic of “Racing and Erasing History.”
The Colloquium for Racial Justice is 4 to 5 p.m. Sept. 28 and is offered via Zoom. The discussion will cover a variety of topics, including if it’s right to remove historic statutes; changing sports team mascots; and renaming buildings that honor slaveholders. Wals, associate professor of ethnic studies and political science, will guide the discussion to focus on how the nation can make race and history decisions that are fair.
Panelists include James Garza, associate professor of ethnic studies and history; Kristin Hoerl, associate professor of communication studies; Casey Kelly, professor of communication studies; and Cynthia Willis-Esqueda, associate professor of psychology and ethnic studies.
