The Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor’s Coffee Chat series, which explores changes in student demographics, will continue with a discussion on how to best serve first-generation students.
The second of four presentations in the Coffee Chat series will be 7:30 a.m. March 2 in the Regency Suite in Nebraska Union. Each presentation in the series will help provide understanding into how the university’s student body is changing, how the university can adapt to best serve students and will feature a keynote address with an interactive discussion.
Coffee and light refreshments will be provided. No reservations are needed.
First-generation students are one of the fastest growing populations in Nebraska’s student body. The Coffee Chat will help participants learn how the needs of first-generation students are unique, discover the challenges and opportunities they face, engage with speakers and discuss how the university community can best adapt to serve these students.
The presentation will include raw and honest points of view from first-generation students and two keynote speakers, Jeanette “Sam” Samuels and Elvira Abrica.
Samuels is a Nebraska alumna, first-generation college graduate and founder of Samuels and Associates, which provides affordable, quality legal representation to Chicago’s underserved industries and communities.
Abrica is assistant professor in the College of Education and Human Sciences and expert on equity and access in higher education.
Two additional Coffee Chats will be offered. Presentation topics and dates will be announced later.
