This year’s Citizen’s Police Academy, hosted by the University Police Department, will begin Sept. 25.
During the course of the academy, participants will learn about dispatch communications and support services, police technology, patrol functions, investigative services, bomb detection canines, emergency preparedness and event management. The academy is interactive and incorporates classroom presentations, police ride-alongs, demonstrations and other activities related to public safety.
“This will be the second year for the Citizens’ Police Academy and a continuation of our desire to build partnerships and increase our engagement with the campus community,” said Hassan Ramzah, interim chief of police.
The program will be offered from 6 to 9 p.m. on Wednesdays from Sept. 25 to Oct. 30. Participation is free of charge. All applicants must be 19 years of age and a member of the university community. The application process includes a background check.
The academy is limited to 12 participants and applications are available online. The deadline to apply is Sept. 19.
