During home football games this fall, University of Nebraska–Lincoln Chancellor Rodney D. Bennett is hosting everyday heroes from across the Cornhusker State.
“Chancellor’s Champions” are selected for making positive impacts on their respective communities. The program is focused on first responders, teachers, military veterans and agricultural leaders. Each hero and three guests are treated to free admission to a Husker football game, complete with a pregame tailgate, opportunity to meet Bennett, on-field experience and club-level seats.
Chancellor’s Champions selected this season include Tyler Madison, a middle school teacher from Grand Island; Daryl Obermeyer, a farmer from Brownville; Linda Mullen, a preschool teacher from Norfolk; and Chris Kuehn, a livestock producer from Heartwell.
“These remarkable individuals embody the heart and spirit of what it means to be a Nebraskan, enriching their communities through dedication and service,” Bennett said. “It is my honor to recognize their contributions while we share in the excitement of Husker football.”
Madison is a social studies and American history teacher at Grand Island’s Walnut Middle School. His passion for teaching includes taking middle school students to Washington, D.C., each year. Madison was recently honored as Middle School Teacher of the Year by the Grand Island Public Schools Foundation.
Madison attended the Northern Iowa game Sept. 14.
Obermeyer runs a cow/calf and rainfed grain operation near Auburn. He has demonstrated a deep commitment to agriculture and his community through involvement with Nebraska Extension, the local school board and Natural Resource Conservation Service, and work as a no-till and cover crop entrepreneur.
Obermeyer attended the Illinois game Sept. 20.
Nominated by her daughter, Mullen was selected for her 37 years of service as a preschool teacher in Norfolk. She is director of the Little Lambs Preschool at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and School.
Mullen attended the Rutgers game Oct. 5.
Kuehn is a crop and livestock producer who farms near Heartwell. During his ag career, Kuehn has been an advocate for Nebraska Extension and agriculture. He is also a staunch supporter of public education.
Kuehn will attend the UCLA game Nov. 2.
Additional Chancellor’s Champions will be announced.
