Ceramics duo to close out fall visiting artist series

Ceramic artists Linda Lopez and Cristina Córdova will cap the fall 2017 Hixson-Lied Visiting Artist and Scholar Lecture Series with a 5:30 p.m. Nov. 14 talk in Richards Hall, Room 15.

The talk, sponsored by the Clay Club, is free and open to the public. Organized by the School of Art, Art History and Design, the series brings notable artists, scholars and designers to Nebraska each semester to enhance the education of students.

Each visiting artist or scholar spends one to three days on campus to meet with classes, participate in critiques and give demonstrations.

Lopez received a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Colorado. She has exhibited work in New Zealand and throughout the United States.

Lopez has been an artist in residence at The Clay Studio and the Archie Bray Foundation. She received the Lighton International Artist Exchange Program Grant to be an artist in residence at CRETA Rome, an international center that promotes ceramics and visual arts in Rome, Italy. She is represented by Mindy Solomon Gallery.

Córdova lives and works in Penland, North Carolina. She received a Master of Fine Arts in ceramics from the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred and has taught at Penland School of Crafts, Haystack Mountain School, Santa Fe Clay, Mudfire, Odyssey Center for Ceramics and Anderson Ranch.

Córdova founded Travel Arte, an ongoing platform that provides educational experiences within the ceramics medium while immersing students in the creative culture of a specific setting.
