Center for Great Plains Studies opens Wunder Book Collection

John Wunder

The Center for Great Plains Studies has opened the Wunder Book Collection, consisting of scholarly works about the Great Plains and Natives in the Plains.

The works were donated by John Wunder, a historian of the American West and University of Nebraska-Lincoln professor emeritus of history. Wunder was the fourth director of the Center for Great Plains Studies, from 1988 to 1997.

Wunder compiled most of the books in this library over a lifetime of scholarship. Center fellows, graduate fellows and visitors are encouraged to use them.

“This expansive book collection really highlights the breadth of John Wunder’s work on the Great Plains,” center director Richard Edwards said. “John’s commitment to Great Plains scholarship is impressive, and now we get to pass it on to others interested in the region.”

The library will operate on the honor system and a sign-in sheet. Books should stay in the center and be left on reading tables when finished.
