The Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln will host a Data Storytelling Workshop and Data Art Jam on Jan. 13. The event will bring together artists technologists, and storytellers for a day of creative exploration where data meets storytelling and art comes alive.

Organized by the CreatiViz team, and part of the university's Grand Challenge grant, the event aims to cultivate a culture of creative data visualization by transforming complex datasets into compelling visual narratives. Participants will engage in hands-on workshops, interactive data experiences and an open art jam that celebrates the intersection of technology, creativity, information and human expression.

Through these activities, attendees will learn to weave narratives around data, employing visualizations, interactive applications and real-world experiences to convey insights in an engaging and accessible way. The workshop merges data analysis with storytelling, offering a tool for conveying complex ideas to diverse audiences.

"We believe that data storytelling is about more than just numbers," said Dan Novy, assistant professor. "It's about inspiring wonder, encouraging critical thinking, and fostering a deeper appreciation for science and technology through creative expression."

Information and registration is available online. Questions can be forwarded to Novy at novysan@unl.edu.
