The Bureau of Sociological Research has released its 2025-26 annual report, highlighting another year of supporting high-quality research for the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, state agencies and organizations across Nebraska and beyond.
During the year, the bureau completed 78 projects, including 31 for University of Nebraska–Lincoln faculty, staff and students and 42 for state agencies and other external partners. The bureau also managed 17 grants in progress and generated $2 million in revenue through its research and evaluation activities.
A majority of projects used mixed-mode data collection approaches, combining web, mail, telephone and other survey methods to reach diverse populations and maximize participation. Through these efforts, the bureau continued its mission of providing scientifically rigorous research services while helping clients address important questions related to public health, education, agriculture, community well-being and public policy.
Some highlights from the annual report include moving the telephone interviewing lab from its off-campus facility to Oldfather Hall; executing more than 1.2 million outgoing calls and completing over 11,000 telephone interviews; venturing into data collection through text messaging, with about 42,000 text messages sent; and continuing opportunities for students to gain research experience.
The bureau also added to the field of survey research through its own efforts. Staff continued to share insights about Nebraskans' attitudes and experiences through the Nebraska Snapshot reports, including recent studies examining artificial intelligence awareness and financial well-being and quality-of-life indicators over time.
