The Lied Center for Performing Arts’ 2016-17 season draws to a close with a performance by blues legend Buddy Guy and a six-show run of the Broadway hit “Matilda the Musical.”

May and June shows:
“An Evening With Buddy Guy,” May 4, 7:30 p.m. – Famous for his blistering vocals and high-voltage playing, Guy is a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame who has inspired artists such as Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page and Keith Richards. He has received six Grammy awards and was named one of Rolling Stone’s 100 greatest guitarists of all time.
Joey Alexander Trio, May 18, 7:30 p.m. – This jazz piano wunderkind has been playing since age 6 and released his first album, “My Favorite Things” – which was nominated for two Grammys – at 12. Now 13, he will make his Lied Center debut performing jazz standards with adventurous spirit and improvisatory verve.
“Move – Beyond,” May 24, 7 p.m. – “Dancing with the Stars” performers Julianne and Derek Hough will take the audience on a journey of dance and music inspired by the four elements – earth, wind, fire and water – as an exploration of the human relationship with nature. The Houghs will be joined by the Move Company Dancers for performances ranging in style from ballroom and tap to salsa and hip-hop.
“Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical,” May 31, 7:30 p.m.; June 1, 2 and 7:30 p.m.; June 2, 7:30 p.m.; June 3, 2 and 7:30 p.m. – Named Time’s No. 1 show of the year in 2013, “Matilda the Musical” is the story of an extraordinary girl who, armed with a vivid imagination and sharp mind, dares to take a stand and change her destiny. Based on the beloved novel by Dahl, “Matilda” thrilled sold-out audiences on Broadway and continues to play in London’s West End.
