As the Bureau of Sociological Research (BOSR) enters their 60th year of operation, the organization releases their 2022-23 annual report. The document presents one of BOSR’s most successful years due to an array of projects and clients from across the state of Nebraska.

This past year saw BOSR participating in 148 total projects, with 78 coming from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. A majority of projects were mixed-mode surveys to include diverse groups of participants. BOSR also completed qualitative research with focus groups and interviews on 26 projects.

Some highlights from the Bureau’s University partners include:

  • The Higher Education Survey, where BOSR collaborated with UCOMM to survey Nebraska residents and key markets on their perceptions of the University. This project’s data will help UCOMM improve public perception of NU’s quality and value.

  • The University of Nebraska Academic Calendar Survey used a web-survey to assess student attitudes on pre-session courses. Over 3,500 students at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, the University of Nebraska at Omaha and the University of Nebraska at Kearney participated.

  • The Department of Chemical and Bimolecular Engineering Alumni Survey facilitated collecting alumni’s reflections for future program development. The survey asked alumni about their preparedness for the workforce after graduation.

  • Student Health Insurance Survey, where the University of Nebraska System sought feedback on the student health insurance plan to guide future decision-making.

BOSR completed seven large-scale, mixed-mode surveys which helped illustrate the most effective participation methods. Survey completion on the web indicate saved time and money for researchers, though mail and phone remain the most reliable modes for overall participation.

The report also showcases BOSR’s research panel, NebrASKa Voices. Panel members are recruited from the NASIS survey that agree to be included for recruitment in future research projects. The Bureau offers the Voices Panel as a resource for researchers to gain a representative picture of Nebraskan residents. The annual report is now available here for the 2022-23 fiscal year.
