Blackboard, the outgoing learning management service for the university, is ending a 23-year run on May 15. Faculty and students will be unable to access course content or grades after this date.
The university’s new learning management service will be Canvas by Infrastructure.
All instructor course materials and student projects will need to be downloaded by the individual owners. Information Technology Services is recommending digital materials be stored in Box, the university-supported online storage solution.
“Over the past two years, faculty and students have been transitioning to Canvas,” said Heath Tuttle, associate vice chancellor, information technology services. “We started with a small group of faculty who started testing it and really embraced the enhanced features. Now more than 95 percent of all current courses are running on Canvas.”
Students and instructors should verify that all materials stored in Blackboard are removed before the May 15 deadline.
“It’s really important to login to Blackboard and download anything you might wish to save,” Tuttle said. “Our Blackboard contract is ending and we will no longer be able to retrieve that material.”
Other new services include Zoom, for web conferencing and illos for video lecture capture.
