The documentary “Birthright: A War Story” opens at the Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center on Oct. 13. Continuing to show is “Patti Cake$.”
“Birthright: A War Story” shares the voices of women working against the campaign to take control of reproductive health care that allows states, courts and religious doctrine to govern whether, when and how women bear children.
A movie talk, hosted by Friends of the Ross, will follow the 2:30 p.m. Oct. 15 showing of “Birthright.” The talk will include three panelists: Todd Pankratz, a partner with OB/GYN Associates in Hastings, Nebraska, who appears in the film; Danielle Deaver, a nurse and mother who is in the film; and Luchina Fisher, award-winning writer and filmmaker, and co-executive producer/writer for “Birthright.”
“Birthright” is not rated and plays through Oct. 19.
“Patti Cake$”, a coming-of-age story, continues to show at the Ross.
“Patti Cake$” is the first feature film from acclaimed commercial and music-video director Geremy Jasper. Set in a gritty strip-mall suburbia, the film chronicles the quest of an unlikely rapper who finds her voice as a one-of-a-kind hip-hop legend.
“Patti Cake$,” which is rated R for language throughout, crude sexual references, some drug use and a brief nude image, plays through Oct. 19.
