The University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Department of Physics and Astronomy invites the public to an open house from 8 to 10 p.m. Sept. 9 at Behlen Observatory, 35 miles northeast of Lincoln, near Mead. The event is free and open to the public.

If weather permits, attendees will be able to view the moon, Saturn, Mars and many clusters of stars through various telescopes. Society of Physics students will perform science demonstrations.

“This public night will feature Mars, Saturn and the moon right next to each other in the southern sky,” said Shawn Langan, lab manager and instructor in physics and astronomy. “We should be able to catch Uranus by the end of the evening.”
