The University of Nebraska–Lincoln has set guidelines that will allow it to host events while also meeting health recommendations related to the COVID-19 global pandemic.
Effective Aug. 1, the guidelines include an approval process needed for all university-related events that plan to have more than 50 participants. In addition, all events must follow best practices linked to local, state and federal health guidelines. Those include social distancing, use of facial coverings, reducing venue capacities and using remote engagement for larger gatherings.
Approval of university-sponsored events must be granted by the vice chancellor associated with the organizing campus group or unit. An event risk assessment must also be filed with the vice chancellor for business and finance prior to the date of the event.
The point of contact for an event must be onsite for the duration to ensure compliance with directed health measures. Any university event may be canceled without notice at any time, even if previously approved.
Athletic events are governed by Nebraska Athletics, the Big Ten Conference and NCAA guidelines. Programs held at specific campus venues — including the Lied Center for Performing Arts, Carson Theatre and Sheldon Museum of Art — are expected to follow pre-approved venue policies and protocols.
