Faculty/Staff
- Roger Elmore, professor of agronomy and horticulture, was named a fellow of the Crop Science Society of America. The award is the society’s highest recognition. Elmore is co-leader of a new cover crop research project supported by the Nebraska Soybean Board and Nebraska Corn Board. His research program focuses on farming production practices that increase profit through optimizing yields and water use. For more information, click here.
- Alexei Gruverman, professor of physics and astronomy, has received the Ferroelectrics Recognition Award from the Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics and Frequency Control Society. The annual award honors members of the society for outstanding achievements in their scientific field and for promoting the ferroelectrics community. The society is part of the Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engineers. The award cited Gruverman for his fundamental and applied studies of nanoscale physical phenomena using scanning probe microscopy. For more information on Gruverman’s research, click here.
- Martha Mamo, professor of agronomy and horticulture, received the Soil Science Education and Extension award from the Soil Science Society of America. The award honors soil scientists who have made outstanding educational contributions through resident, extension or industrial education. Mamo’s research focus is on soil chemistry/biochemistry, mob grazing and international agriculture. Her courses in the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources have been credited with inspiring student interest in soil sciences. She has also secured funding for studies on sorghum production systems in Africa, co-developed a global food security course, teaches instructional efforts with farmers in Ethiopia, and leads a summer internship program designed to prepare students to address challenges of food production and the environment. - Kristen Olson, associate professor of sociology, won the International Journal of Market Research’s Collaborative Research Award. The award honors the best paper written as a collaboration between academics and private industry, and published in the journal. Collaborators on the paper, “Evaluating Data Quality in Reports of Sales in a Retail Establishment Survey,” are Xiaoyu Lin and Tim Banks, both of Nielsen, a global information, data and measurement company. - Prahalada Rao, assistant professor of mechanical and materials engineering, is one of five winners of the 2017 Society of Mechanical Engineers’ Yoram Koren Outstanding Young Manufacturing Engineer awards. The honor is for engineers 35 years or younger who, in the early stages of their career, have made exceptional contributions and accomplishments in the manufacturing industry. Students
- Reed Kraeger, a senior agricultural and cooperative education major who graduated in May, earned the reserve championship in the steer wrestling event at the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wyoming. Kraeger qualified to compete in the finals event by winning the steer wrestling title in the Great Plains Region (Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Iowa). - Kramer Samuelson, a senior PGA golf management major, was named Player of the Year by the university’s PGA Golf Management program. Kramer earned the honor by winning two individual golfing events and finishing second in seven other contests. For more information on the program, click here.
