First Friday includes fashion show, book signing, dance performances

Students will perform choreographed responses to art in "Now's the Time" for First Friday at the Sheldon Museum of Art.

University of Nebraska–Lincoln museums and galleries will offer extended hours and free admission Nov. 3, as part of the First Friday Art Walk. In addition, each location will offer one-of-a-kind events to accompany the exhibitions on display.

Dance students from the Glenn Korff School of Music will perform choreographed responses to the visual art in “Now’s the Time” from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Sheldon Museum of Art. Learn more about the dance performances.

The School of Art, Art History and Design will celebrate the opening of its annual MEDICI exhibition from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Eisentrager•Howard Gallery in Richards Hall. The exhibition features art by Nebraska-educated, university faculty and supporting artists. All works in the show will be sold as part of a fundraising event from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Nov. 9 in the gallery. Learn more about the exhibition.

Great Plains Art Museum will host a family-friendly opening reception for “Collection Critters,” which showcases Great Plains animals. The animals are presented in sculpture, prints, photographs and paintings, all of which are part of the museum’s permanent collection. This reception will provide free food and activities, such as matching paw prints to animals. Learn more about the opening reception.

Architecture faculty Timothy Hemsath, David Karle, Sarah Karle, Mark Hinchman, Rumiko Handa and Kay Logan-Peters will have their books available for purchase and/or signing as part of the First Friday Art Walk activities, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Architecture Hall Gallery.

Displays in the College of Architecture will feature student designs from several education abroad programs, alongside the one-of-a-kind Kruger Collection of Miniature Furnishings and Decorative Arts. Learn more about this book signing and showcase.

And, the Department of Textiles, Merchandising and Fashion Design will present “Refined Design,” a runway show and collaborative event featuring students’ designs and artwork. Styling is provided by The Black Market. Doors open at 6 p.m. with runway shows at 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. at Gold’s Building Commons Area. Learn more about the show.
