UNL featured a number of ranked colleges and programs in U.S. News and World Report’s Best Graduate Schools 2016, which were released March 10.

The College of Education and Human Sciences’ graduate program moved up eight spots, landing at No. 40 among 123 universities in the publication’s list of Best Education Graduate Schools.

Marjorie Kostelnik, the college’s dean, said the climb in this year’s rankings reflects the college’s success in preparing students to make a difference in the lives of individuals, families, schools and communities.

“The College of Education and Human Sciences continues to focus on providing our students with excellent teaching, relevant experiences and value,” Kostelnik said. “To climb in these rankings provides us with another form of verification that we are succeeding in meeting our students’ needs.”

The College of Law maintained its momentum this year, checking in at No. 56 among 198 schools just three years after being ranked No. 89. U.S. News examined peer assessment, assessment by lawyers and judges, students’ grade-point averages, law-school entrance exam scores, acceptance rates, student-to-faculty ratio, recent graduate employment and the rate of graduates from each law school who pass the bar exam.

“We are gratified to have maintained our 30-plus point gain in the law school rankings over the past few years,” said Susan Poser, dean of the law college. “In a challenging environment we are continuing to enroll excellent students, update and grow our curriculum and programs and prepare our students for modern law practice.”

Engineering was No. 90 of 195 schools in this year’s graduate school rankings. Its biological/agricultural engineering program was No. 9, based on U.S. News’ survey of engineering school department heads.

The College of Business Administration’s part-time MBA program ranked No. 64 of 135. Meanwhile, CBA’s online MBA program moved to No. 10 in the world in Financial Times’ latest rankings, up from No. 12 last year.

The latter ranking, CBA Dean Donde Plowman said, demonstrates the college’s commitment to providing a worldwide, first-class business education.

“This recognition is a testament of our decision to provide a quality MBA program taught by the same world-renowned professors whether the students are in the classroom, online or a combination of both,” she said.
