‘Strategies to Reduce Exclusionary Discipline’ event is Sept. 18

The UNL community is invited to attend a daylong conference on “Strategies to Reduce Exclusionary Discipline in the Schools” Sept. 18 at Innovation Campus.

School discipline consequences, which prevent participation in school, such as suspension and expulsion, have become controversial, because they have been disproportionally used with minority students and students with disabilities.

This one-day conference will feature two internationally known scholars suggesting strategies to reduce exclusionary discipline: Kathleen Lane, from the University of Kansas, on school-wide behavior screening, and Tim Lewis, from the University of Missouri, on Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports. UNL professor Reece Peterson will host the event.

The conference will include lunch.

Scholarships are available to cover the cost for UNL faculty and students wishing to attend.

Agenda, registration and other information are available at http://go.unl.edu/discipline-conference.
