Quintet to offer 20th century brass music

The University of Nebraska Brass Quintet consists of Craig Fuller, Alan Mattingly, Scott Anderson, K. Craig Bircher and Scott Quackenbush.

The University of Nebraska Brass Quintet will present a recital of 20th century brass music for quintet at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 29 in the Kimball Recital Hall.

The program will include “Metamorphosis on a Theme From ‘Die Moldau’” by Jan Koetsier. The guest artist on this piece is UNL lecturer of harp, Mary Bircher. Bircher has performed numerous times with the quintet on music by Rayner Brown and William Schmidt.

The “Metamorphosis” is one of two Nebraska premieres. The other is “Ricochet” by Kerry Turner. Other highlights of the program are the “Colchester Fantasy” by Julliard composer Eric Ewazen and the “Quintet” by Michael Kamen. The “Quintet” was one of the last pieces composed by Kamen before his death in 2003.

The performance, which is free and open to the public, will also be a live webcast. For more information, visit the Glenn Korff School of Music webcast.
