The drama “The Patience Stone,” based on the best-selling novel, opens Oct. 18 at the Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center. Also showing for a final week is the romantic drama “Enough Said,” which stars Julia Louis Dreyfus and James Gandolfini.

“The Patience Stone” is rated R; “Enough Said” is rated PG-13. Both play through Oct. 24.

In “The Patience Stone,” author Atiq Rahimi adapts his own novel about a Muslim woman whose paralyzed husband unconsciously assumes the role of a magical force to protect his wife from the sorrows of life in a war-torn village.

The film is set in an unnamed Middle Eastern country caught up in an insurrection. The loyal 30-something wife faithfully watches over her vegetative husband, who has been all but forgotten by his brothers and fellow Jihadists.

Over time, the wife gathers the courage to tell her husband of all the things she has remained silent about during their 10 years of marriage. She speaks frankly of the disappointments, sorrows and sacrifices that have made her life difficult.

Only weeks later, when the wife enters into a relationship with a young soldier, does she begin to reveal the woman she has kept locked up since the day she was married.

In “Enough Said,” Louis-Drefus plays Eva, a masseuse dreading her daughter’s impending departure for college. She meets Albert (Gandolfini), a funny and like-minded man also facing an empty nest.

As the romance blooms, Eva befriends Marianne (Catherine Keener), a new massage client. As Marianne talks bad about her former husband, Eva finds herself doubting her new relationship with Albert.
