New film showing at the Ross; two held over

Scene from "A Bigger Splash," which opens May 27 at UNL's Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center.

Opening May 27 at the Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center is “A Bigger Splash.” Also showing are “The Meddler” and “The Man Who Knew Infinity.”

In “A Bigger Splash,” rock legend Marianne Lane is recuperating on the volcanic island of Pantelleria with her partner Paul. When Lane’s record producer and old flame Harry unexpectedly arrives with his daughter, he interrupts their holiday, bringing with him an A-bomb blast of nostalgia from which there can be no rescue.

“A Bigger Splash” shows through June 9. It is rated R for graphic nudity, some strong sexual content, language and brief drug use.

Both “The Meddler” and “The Man Who Knew Infinity” play through June 2.

In “The Meddler,” Marnie Minervini has relocated from New Jersey to Los Angeles to be near her daughter Lori, a successful screenwriter. But when the dozens of texts, unexpected visits and conversations dominated by unsolicited advice from Marnie force Lori to draw strict personal boundaries, Marnie finds ways to channel her eternal optimism and forceful generosity to change the lives of others — as well as her own — and find a new purpose in life.

“The Man Who Knew Infinity” is based on the untold true story of mathematics genius Srinivasa Ramanujan. The film traces Ramanujan’s life, from the slums of India to Cambridge University.
