Nebraska at Oxford program marks 27th year

Seventy University of Nebraska-Lincoln students traveled to England on July 19 as part of the 27th annual Nebraska at Oxford Program.

Sponsored by the UNL College of Business Administration, the study abroad program provides four weeks of courses at the University of Oxford in England, the oldest university in the English-speaking world.

Nebraska at Oxford is the university’s most popular study abroad program with more than 1,700 alumni in 39 states and 10 countries.

“The Nebraska at Oxford Program is the premier study abroad program offered at the university because of our relationship with the faculty and staff at Oxford,” said Donde Plowman, dean of the College of Business Administration. “To be able to give our students the opportunity to study at this prestigious university gives our students a competitive edge in the job market and an experience they will never forget.”

The program is open to undergraduate students of all academic majors. Business students take two lecture-tutorial courses on British political and international economic policy for six hours of UNL academic credit. Non-business students also can enroll in a course on Shakespeare’s dramatic arts. Lecturers are faculty from the University of Oxford.

Cultural excursions supplement the course lectures and tutorials, including having high tea, attending the horse races at Sandown Park, a West End show in London and experiencing a Royal Shakespeare Company performance in Stratford-upon-Avon.

“Coming from a small town, the experience of being immersed in different cultures and attending such a prestigious university opened my eyes to life outside our borders,” said Jake Daberkow, a 2012 Nebraska at Oxford participant. “The Nebraska at Oxford Program was a life-changing experience for me and I would encourage others to take advantage of these opportunities offered through CBA.”

UNL students participating in Nebraska at Oxford are listed by hometown.
