NanoDays event is March 24

UNL researchers and students will participate in a NanoDays event, 1 to 4 p.m., March 24 at Gateway Mall in Lincoln.

UNL researchers and students will participate in NanoDays, 1 to 4 p.m., March 24 at Westfield Gateway Mall, 6100 East O St. The event brings university researchers together with science educators to create new and unique learning experiences for both children and adults to explore the minuscule world of atoms, molecules, and nanoscale forces. This event will combine fun hands-on activities with informal conversations on current research with UNL faculty and graduate students.

A range of exciting NanoDays programs demonstrate the special and unexpected properties found at the nanoscale. Visitors will make some of their own nanomaterials using tape, investigate super thin materials used in solar cell technology, and change the color of a butterfly’s wings. Other activities include an “I Spy Nano” game and real nano gold. There will be prizes for the first 100 who visit all 10 interactive demonstration tables, and a nanoscience prize for the elementary and middle school with the most attendees.

NanoDays is part of a nationwide festival of educational programs about nanoscale science and engineering. In Nebraska, NanoDays is sponsored by Nebraska EPSCoR in collaboration with UNL’s Nebraska Center for Materials and Nanoscience and the Materials Research Science and Engineering Center.
