The Kruger Gallery Lincoln has opened two new miniature exhibitions, “Honestly Eames: Material Truth in Furniture Design” and “Eric Pearson: Master Miniature Maker.”

“Honestly Eames: Material Truth in Furniture Design” features one-sixth scale miniature replicas of furniture designed by the husband-and-wife team Charles and Ray Eames. Created by the Vitra Design Museum, each miniature corresponds to the original in construction, material and color, with careful consideration to the intention of the designer. The final product is made by hand, with the aid of specialized machines, in small batches.

“Eric Pearson: Master Miniature Maker” includes 15 one-12th scale furniture pieces hand-crafted by the notable American miniature maker from the 1930s through the late 1960s.

“Eloise Kruger was a devoted collector or Eric Pearson’s work,” said DiAnna Hemsath, Kruger Gallery curator. “The two often collaborated on individual pieces through correspondence. As of result of her admiration of his work, Mrs. Kruger collected over 260 pieces by Mr. Pearson. He was a perfectionist who made his own tools to create fine-scale miniature details, such as working hinges, inlaid wood and hand-turned ivory knobs.”

Eloise Andrews Kruger was a Lincoln resident who began collecting miniatures in the late 1930s and at her death in 1995 owned a collection of more than 20,000 pieces. Her family donated her research library, notes, correspondence and all of her miniatures to UNL in 1997 to found the Kruger Collection.

The Kruger Gallery, first floor-west in Architecture Hall, is open to the public 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. There is no admission charge. The exhibitions will run throughout the school year. For more information go to http://krugercollection.unl.edu.
