Jacht Ad Lab, the student advertising agency at the College of Journalism and Mass Communications, will host a First Friday photography exhibit, “Spain Captured,” 6 to 8 p.m. Dec. 6 at the Jacht Ad Lab, 201 N. 8th St.

The exhibit features photos by 18 students from the college who traveled with professors Tom and Sriyani Tidball during a trip in May and June exploring various regions of Spain. The students maintained in-depth story and photo blogs, and social media platforms that documented their educational experience during the study abroad program.

“Between experiencing and documenting everything from breathtaking cathedrals to winding side streets to hole-in-the-wall panaderias, our students lived the visual culture of Spain,” Sriyani Tidball said. “We asked the students to analyze and reflect on their experiences through photography and social media.”

In addition to visiting Barcelona and Madrid, the students took in small towns and villages in Andalusia, Cordoba, Toledo, Seville and Granada. Along the way they visited the advertising agencies Contraunto BBDO and McCann in Madrid.

“We had an amazing time, and had a great group of adventurous, talented and highly motivated students,” said Tom Tidball, curator of the exhibit. “So the images on display are great, and the exhibit is a credit to the quality of photography students in our college.”

The exhibit marks the ninth First Friday at Jacht Ad Lab, all showcasing work from UNL students and faculty.

Founded in fall 2010 as UNL’s first student advertising agency, Jacht gives students the opportunity to develop strategic use of social media, digital production, mobile media and other emerging technologies to help clients reach their business goals. This generates a unique student “ad lab” experience that yields professional and engaging creative work. Jacht students partner with clients in an experimental environment where there is opportunity to explore, analyze and test fresh ideas in the constantly evolving digital communications space.
