Artist Daniel Chauche, who has been photographing Guatemala since late 1975, will present a gallery talk at the Sheldon Museum of Art at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 29.

The Sheldon is also showing the exhibit, “Daniel Chauche: Visions of the Future Past in Guatemala,” through Jan. 11. This is the first museum exhibition of Chauche’s photographs in the United States.

The exhibition presents a cultural, historical and political narrative of Guatemala through images that are both valuable anthropological documents and profound personal records. Capturing the “future past” is central to Chauche’s approach, an intention to photograph iconic images of everyday life that will be representative reflections of times gone by for future generations.

Sheldon is open free to the public during regular hours: Tuesday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Wednesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Sunday, noon to 5 p.m. The museum is closed on Monday. For more information, go to http://www.sheldonartmuseum.org.
