Former McDonald’s president headlines Women in Business conference

Jan Fields

The Undergraduate Women in Business student organization in the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s College of Business Administration is hosting the annual Women in Business conference on Feb. 26.

The conference will take place at Nebraska Innovation Campus, 2021 Transformation Drive, from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and is open to women who are students, young professionals and members of the business community. Attendees may choose to attend the full day or the networking reception and keynote speaker portion from 4 to 6:30 p.m.

The conference is sponsored by Nelnet and Union Bank and Trust, along with Ameritas, Talent Plus and the Lincoln Community Foundation, and features two speakers and nine breakout sessions.

Jan Fields, former president of McDonald’s USA LLC, will present the keynote address.

“Everyone will be able to learn from her leadership and career journey,” said Donna Dudney, associate dean for undergraduate programs and student engagement and associate professor of finance. “The breakout sessions offer a variety of timely business topics from networking, strengths and negotiation all the way to improving your brand and breaking into a male-dominated field.”

Fields will share her career story in which dedication and hard work took her through all levels of the company, starting with french fries and developing into being responsible for the strategic direction and overall business results of 14,000 McDonald’s restaurants throughout the United States.

Amber Williams, UNL director of admissions, will be the luncheon presenter. Breakout sessions led by alumni and business community leaders will follow. One of the breakout sessions will be led by Donde Plowman, dean of the College of Business Administration, who will present on negotiation based on her nationally ranked research.

The registration for any college or university students is $15 for the full day with lunch. Business professional registration is $60 for the full day with lunch or $40 to attend only the networking reception and keynote presentation. Register by Feb. 19.
