A spring festival celebrating UNL’s Maxwell Arboretum is 4:30 to 6 p.m. May 15. The “Spring Into Maxwell Arboretum: Evergreens for the Future” is free and open to the public.

The festival includes a free drawing for trees and a handcrafted wooden bowl; a tree-planting presentation; a reading by Twyla Hansen, Nebraska State Poet; displays; tours; and activities.

Displays will be presented by the Nebraska Department of Agriculture, Nebraska Forest Service, ReTree Nebraska and the UNL Gardens. Free refreshments, including ice cream, popcorn and pizza, will be provided.

The festival is a zero-waste event, meaning organizers have planned ahead to reduce solid waste from the event and reuse recyclable or compostable materials. The event is organized by the Friends of Maxwell Arboretum and UNL Landscape Services.
