Through funding from the University of Nebraska Foundation and the University of Nebraska Office of the President, UNL is offering six grants up to $6,000 each for UNL faculty seeking to develop collaborative projects and initiatives to deepen and expand current partnerships in eight priority countries: Brazil, Turkey, Oman, India, Vietnam, Indonesia, China and South Korea.

The Global Gateway Faculty Associates Grant Awards are designed to build upon already existing relationships and partnerships by focusing on identified institutional partners abroad, creating new international engagement opportunities for UNL students and faculty.

Successful proposals will create and build opportunities in one of three areas: academic course offerings, education abroad programming or the development of or engagement with key partner institutions on research and collaborative scholarly partnerships.

Applicants are encouraged to build upon already existing institutional relationships; a current list of international partner institutions can be found at http://international.unl.edu/current-international-agreements.

Proposals should make a commitment to developing and offering one or more of the following within two years of receiving the award:

  • A new education abroad opportunity for UNL students in a priority country

  • A new academic course focused on a priority country

  • A revision of an existing course to include significant content on a priority country

  • A research opportunity for faculty or students in partnership with universities or institutions in a priority country

  • An opportunity to enhance student recruitment from a priority country

Faculty chosen for the Global Gateway Faculty Associates Program must coordinate award travel with the senior international officer, the International Engagement Office and their home department and college. Tenured faculty, and faculty in tenure-track or professor of practice lines, are eligible.

Past Global Gateway Faculty Associate grants have funded 12 faculty member projects from various UNL colleges. These grants were used on projects such as the development of a new course, a study abroad program focused on language acquisition, a series of extension presentations and nutrition labs, major revisions to an already existing course, two new education abroad opportunities, an art exhibition and a new international research partnership.
