‘Cocoa, Carols’ holiday festival is Dec. 7

Several UNL choirs will perform “Cocoa and Carols: a Family Yuletide Festival of Choirs” at 3 and 7:30 p.m. Dec. 7 in the Kimball Recital Hall.

The holiday-inspired massed choral performance of seasonal favorites will include performances by these UNL choirs: University Singers, Women’s Chorale, Varsity Men’s Chorus, University Chamber Singers and All-Collegiate Choir.

Special guests will be the Lincoln Public Schools All-City Girls Choir, under the direction of Wes Hansmeyer, who is currently serving as president of the Nebraska Choral Directors Association.

The 300-plus musicians will perform as individual ensembles and also combine for many carols sung surrounding the audience with singers on the stage, in the balcony, in the side aisles and in the back of the auditorium.

The program will include the following carols and many others: “I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day,” “O Come All Ye Faithful” and “A King is Born.”

The choirs will perform in numerous languages including English, Hebrew, Latin, Latvian and more. The organ, brass, piano and percussion will accompany the choirs.

As per tradition, the audience will be asked to join in singing traditional songs. Cocoa will be served after the performances.

The evening performance will also be webcast beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets are available at the door and are $3 for students and senior citizens and $5 for other members of the public.
