Two new films will be showing at the Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center starting May 6.

“Born to Be Blue” stars Ethan Hawke as the jazz legend Chet Baker.

In the 1950s, Baker was one of the most famous trumpeters in the world, renowned as both a pioneer of the West Coast jazz scene and an icon of cool. By the 1960s, he was all but washed up, his career and personal life in shambles due to years of heroin addiction. In his innovative anti-biopic, director Robert Budreau zeroes in on Baker’s life at a key moment in the 1960s, just as the musician attempts to stage a hard-fought comeback, spurred in part by a romance with a new flame.

This film will be showing through May 19. It is rated R for drug use, language, some sexuality and brief violence.

Also opening at The Ross is “The Family Fang.”

This film is an adaptation of Kevin Wilson’s novel about a family of sharp and affecting dysfunctional performance artists drawn into a murder mystery. Nicole Kidman, Jason Bateman and Christopher Walken star in this film.

“The Family Fang” will be showing through May 12 and is rated R.
