Bike Valet offered for Red-White scrimmage

Bike Valet offered for Red-White spring game on April 12.

BikeUNL, in cooperation with Nebraska Athletics Department, will offer a free bike valet service for the Husker Red-White Spring football game on April 12.

Individuals who bike to campus can keep their rides safe and secure at the Bike Valet, located just west of the Coliseum (on the northeast side of Memorial Stadium). Freewill donations will be accepted with proceeds used to install bike pumps and workstations on campus.

Game Day Bike Valet will be open from noon to 5 p.m. The spring game begins at 2 p.m. at Memorial Stadium.

All bikes will be supervised by BikeUNL staff.

To use the Bike Valet service, go to the west side of the Coliseum. Contact information provided at drop off will be used to verify each bike’s owner during pick-up.

Failure to collect a bike by 5 p.m. will result in a $35 handling and storage fee. Patrons who do not collect their bikes by this time will need to claim their bikes during regular UNL Outdoor Adventures business hours, noon-6 p.m. each day.

Bike Valet patrons are encouraged to use bike routes that avoid heavy traffic areas. Those routes are available on the Bike Valet website, http://bike.unl.edu/bikevalet.

Bike Valet’s goal is to help alleviate heavy game-day traffic while providing a safe, secure and convenient location for bicyclists to store bikes. The Bike Valet was first offered in fall 2013 for all home Husker football games. Organizers plan to offer a similar service during the 2014 season.

UNL earned a Silver Bicycle Friendly University designation by the League of American Bicyclists in 2013. The Bike Valet service is part of UNL’s ongoing efforts to welcome and encourage bicycle commuters and cycling enthusiasts.

Tickets to the spring game remain available. Reserved stadium seats are $10 each. Students in grades eight and under wishing to take the Drug Free Pledge at halftime are admitted free, but must have a ticket to enter the stadium. UNL faculty and staff may purchase one reduced-rate ticket. For more information, go to http://go.unl.edu/2qym.
