The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Department of Physics and Astronomy will host a Haunted Open House from 7:30 to 11 p.m. Oct. 30 at Behlen Observatory, County Road 8 near Ithaca. Halloween costumes are encouraged.

Weather permitting, attendees will be able to view the moon, Uranus and more through various telescopes. In addition, Society of Physics students will be on hand for trick-or-treaters and will perform spooky physics demonstrations in the “Basement of Boo.”

“We are hoping to bring astronomy-related events to all audiences, with families enjoying the trick-or-treating, college students enjoying the haunted basement, and everyone appreciating the beauty of the heavens,” said Shawn Langan, lab manager in the Department of Physics and Astronomy. “No matter the age, there will be astronomy and fun for everyone.”

More details and directions to the observatory can be found at http://observatory.unl.edu. Contact Langan at 402-472-2199 or slangan@unl.edu with questions.
