The University of Nebraska Press welcomes Alisa Plant as the new editor in chief, effective Sept. 14.

Plant comes to UNP from Louisiana State University Press, where she was a senior acquisitions editor acquiring primarily in history, foodways, media studies and environmental studies. In addition to her senior editor duties, Plant was also the list manager and in-house editor of four series.

“We are incredibly pleased that Alisa has agreed to join our team. The entire staff was impressed with her intellect, her thoughtfulness, her knowledge not just overall of scholarly publishing, but particularly in the fields in which UNP publishes,” UNP Director Donna Shear said. “She will be quite an asset to Nebraska.”

Plant holds a doctorate in history from Yale University and is a mentor at the AHA Career Contacts program. She has been at LSU Press since 2005. Prior to her career at LSU, she was a freelance copy editor and assistant editor at the Yale Center for Parliamentary History.

“I’m thrilled to be joining the University of Nebraska Press team,” said Plant. “I’ve long been aware of UNP’s distinguished list, especially in history and sports, and I’m looking forward to building on those successes and branching out into exciting new areas of acquisition.”

Plant plans on acquiring in history and UNP’s other core subject areas.

UNP is a nonprofit scholarly and general interest press that publishes 150 new titles annually under the Nebraska, Bison Books, and Potomac Book imprints, and in partnership with the Jewish Publication Society, along with 31 journals. With more than 3,000 books in print, the University of Nebraska Press is best known for publishing works in Native studies, history, sports, anthropology, and geography, American studies and cultural criticism, and creative works.
