Members of the UNL community featured in award announcements between June 20 and July 9 include Tim Borstelmann, Chad Kilpatrick, Erin Kinley, Glenn Nierman, Curtis Wetovick and the International Quilt Study Center and Museum.

Faculty/Staff

• Tim Borstelmann, professor of history, presided over the annual meeting of the Society for Historians of American Foreign Relations in Washington, D.C., June 25-27. During the meeting, he delivered the society’s annual presidential address. The address, “Inside Every Foreigner: How Americans Understand Others,” will be published in the January 2016 issue of the journal Diplomatic History.

• Chad Kilpatrick, a recruitment manager for admissions, has been named the Illinois International Baccalaureate Schools’ University Admissions Representative of the Year. The award recognizes Kilpatrick’s efforts to help Illinois students with the college and scholarship application process. The honor also is a step forward for UNL and its relationship with the Chicago Public School system, which is one of the largest public schools systems in the nation.

• Glenn Nierman, professor of music education, was inducted as a Lowell Mason Fellow by the National Association for Music Education. The award recognizes individuals for contributions to music education. Nierman, who has taught at UNL since 1979, is president and board chair of the National Association for Music Education. He chairs the association’s teacher evaluation taskforce and has been heavily involved in music education at the national and international levels. Read more at http://go.unl.edu/jwgy.

Students

• Erin Kinley, who graduated in May with a horticulture degree, was awarded one of two 2015 American Society for Horticultural Science Scholars Awards. The award is designed to encourage career development in horticultural science. Only two of the honors are awarded each year. Kinley is the first UNL student to receive the honor.

• Curtis Wetovick, a senior animal science major, received the first Nebraska Cattlemen Foundation Beef State Scholarship. The $10,000 scholarship was established to support outstanding junior, senior or graduate level students. Wetovick, who is from Fullerton, Nebraska, is currently pursuing an animal science degree and a business and Engler agribusiness entrepreneurship minor.

Departments/Units

• The International Quilt Study Center and Museum was awarded a $27,540 grant by the Nebraska Arts Council. The award will support museum programs, operations and exhibitions during the 2015-16 fiscal year. Read more at http://go.unl.edu/uygp.
