Four University of Nebraska-Lincoln programs earned Top-35 rankings in U.S. News & World Report’s newest list of Best Online Programs for Veterans.

The 2015 rankings, released May 19, are designed to help veterans identify high-quality online degree programs that suit their educational needs.

Nebraska’s No. 5-ranked online graduate program in education led the university’s representation in the rankings, which are in their third year. The publication ranked the College of Business Administration’s online MBA No. 18 for veterans. UNL checked in at No. 29 for best online graduate engineering programs for veterans and No. 35 on the list of best online bachelor’s programs for veterans.

To qualify for the Best Online Programs for Veterans rankings, the 737 online degree programs featured first had to be among the top 75 percent of schools ranked in the 2015 Best Online Programs rankings. For those rankings, U.S. News evaluated regionally accredited degree-granting programs on a number of factors, which, depending on the discipline, could have included their affordability, faculty credentials, student services and reputation. See UNL’s most recent overall online rankings here.

Secondly, the programs had to belong to institutions that are certified for the G.I. Bill and participate in the Yellow Ribbon Program, two federal initiatives that help veterans reduce the cost of school. Public schools that don’t participate in the Yellow Ribbon Program still qualified if they offer in-state tuition to student veterans from out of state.

The best-programs-for-veterans rankings measure the factors of affordability, accessibility and reputability in consideration of benefits available specifically to people with military experience.

The university continues its commitment to helping service members who are transitioning into civilian life through its online programs’ flexibility and quality, said Marie Barber, the university’s executive director of online and distance education.
