UNL Theatre, the main stage production program at the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film, opens its 2016-17 season with David Lindsay-Abaire’s dark comedy “Fuddy Meers.”

The production opened Oct. 6. Remaining performances are 7:30 p.m. Oct. 7, 8, 11, 12, 13, 14 and 15, and 2 p.m. Oct. 16, in the Temple Building’s Studio Theatre.

Written by American playwright David Lindsay-Abaire, “Fuddy Meers” tells the story of Claire, an amnesiac who awakens each morning as a blank slate. Every day, her husband and teenage son work to teach Claire about the facts of her life.

One morning, Claire is abducted by a limping, listing man who claims her husband wants to kill her. The play shows the ensuing mayhem through the kaleidoscope of Claire’s world, culminating in a cacophony of revelations that prove that everything is not what it appears to be.

“Fuddy Meers” contains mature language and content which may not be suitable for all audience members.

The production is directed by Dustin Mosko in partial fulfillment of his Master of Fine Arts degree in directing for stage and screen.

The cast features seven actors led by Abbie Austin in the role of Claire. Other performers include students Hunter Mruz, Michael Barth, Trey Martinez, Nick Prior, Aguel Lual, and community actor/Nebraska alumna Cecilia Burkhart.

Graduate students Lisa Halderman, Rebecca Armstrong and Sheric Hull are in charge of scenery design, costumes and lighting, respectively.

Sound is designed by Araceli Ramirez with original music composed by mathematics, physics and music technology majors. Film projections are designed by Zach Trout and the production is stage managed by Riley Redburn.

Tickets are $18 general admission; $16 for faculty/staff, senior citizens and active military; and $12 for students.
