Director Trân Anh Hùng won Best Director at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival for “The Taste of Things,” and the movie is opening at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center Feb. 23.

Set in France in 1889, “The Taste of Things” follows the life of Dodin Bouffant as a chef living with his personal cook and lover Eugénie. They share a long history of gastronomy and love, but Eugénie refuses to marry Dodin, so the food lover decides to do something he has never done before: cook for her.

The film is rated PG-13 and is showing through March 7.

For the 19th consecutive year, ShortsTV and Magnolia Pictures present the Oscar-Nominated Short Films. A festival pass, good for admission to all three programs, will be available at the Ross Box Office. The suggested rating for the animation and live action programs is R, due to adult themes and content. The suggested rating for the documentary program is PG-13. The compilations are showing through Feb. 29.
