Los Angeles–based artist Christina Fernandez will speak at Sheldon Museum of Art at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 5. She will be joined in conversation by Laura Muñoz, assistant professor of history and ethnic studies at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln and author of “Desert Dreams: Mexican Arizona and the Politics of Educational Equality.”

Their conversation will delve into Fernandez’s art and her exploration of issues related to migration, labor, gender, her Mexican American identity, and the capacities of photography itself. A photograph by Fernandez, “Lavanderia #1” [“Laundromat #1”], is currently on view in the Sheldon exhibition, “A Decade of Collecting Works on Paper, 2012–2022.”

Support for this program comes from the Institute for Ethnic Studies and the Hixson-Lied Endowment at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln.
