SciPop talk to explore Miyazaki’s flying machines

Sangjin Ryu will present a SciPop Talk at 7 p.m. Oct. 18.

Flight and the invention of unique flying machines are integral parts of Hayao Miyazaki’s popular anime movies.

Sangjin Ryu, assistant professor of mechanical and materials engineering at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, will delve into the topic at 7 p.m. Oct. 18 in the Adele Hall Learning Commons.

Ryu will discuss the aerodynamics of Miyazaki’s flying machines and answer the question “Can his aircraft really fly?”

The topics of the spring 2018 SciPop Talks series will be revealed at the event. Lectures in the series are free and open to the public.
