The Danube Swabians is a collective name for the ethnic German-speaking population who lived in various countries of central-eastern Europe, first in the 12th century, and on into the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. Finding records of these ancestors can be challenging.

In this Genealogy over Lunch session, Barbara Shousha will share the social media communities that assisted her in finding her family history, actual online records for German-speaking communities that migrated within Europe, and maps to show historical borders and examples of records. She found not only her own family’s records, but the records of many other area families whose descendants are buried in a South Omaha cemetery.

Genealogy over Lunch is a University Libraries’ group designed to help individuals explore and organize family history, which meets every third Thursday of the month. The group welcomes all faculty, staff and students.
