New tool to mitigate phishing may affect junk email folders

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln is evaluating a new tool to help mitigate an ever-increasing number of phishing and malicious email attacks. At 10:30 a.m. Aug 23, this tool was placed in audit mode to collect metrics on the types and numbers of inbound email attacks to campus.

While this tool is not actively blocking or scoring email, the email system delivered a small percentage of legitimate email to email account junk folders over a 24-hour period. The university is working with the vendor and Microsoft and have made changes to resolve this issue.

Please examine your email junk folder to find any legitimate emails dated between Aug. 23-24 that may have been delivered there in error. For additional information and assistance, please contact the Computer Help Center at 402-472-3970 or toll-free at 866-472-3970 or mysupport@unl.edu.
