The University of Nebraska–Lincoln will celebrate the accomplishment of its student-athletes through “A Night at the Lied” on April 23.

The annual celebration, which is free and open to the university community, is hosted by campus academic and life skills programs and held at the Lied Center for Performing Arts. It honors student-athletes for excellence in academics, community service and leadership.

Featured awards include Best Athlete, Outstanding Scholar, Heart and Soul, and Student-Athlete of the Year.

Doors at the Lied open at 6 p.m. for a red-carpet reception with hors d’oeuvres and dessert selections. Seating begins at 6:30 p.m., with the program starting at 7 p.m.

The Best Athlete award will be presented to one female and one male athlete for their outstanding athletic performance over the course of the past year.

The Outstanding Scholar award will be presented to nine student-athletes at the end of their college athletic careers. Each has an undergraduate cumulative GPA of a 3.9 or better.

Heart and Soul awards represent the most prestigious individual award presented by Athletics’ Department of Life Skills. Award recipients are recognized for exhibiting the highest level of commitment to leadership, service and mentorship during the entirety of their time as a student-athlete.

Female and male student-athletes of the year are selected by the Faculty Senate Intercollegiate Athletic Committee. These award winners will also receive Big Ten Medals of Honor.

Other awards include Outstanding Freshman of the Year, Herman Team GPA award, Brook Berringer Team, Sam Foltz Hero 27 Leadership award, Tom Osborne Citizenship Team medallions, and academic medallions.
