The opening of the university’s newest academic hub — the Learning Commons at Love Library — is helping kick off the spring semester.

Located on the first floor of Love North, the $10 million, 30,000-square-foot Learning Commons opens Jan. 11, the first day of the spring 2016 semester. It will be open 24 hours a day, offering the campus community access to a modern, vibrant learning environment designed to encourage cross-discipline collaborations.

“The Learning Commons is helping us recapture Love Library’s role as a key academic hub on campus,” said Nancy Busch, dean of the university libraries. “This space is designed for students, faculty and staff to come and study alone or work in groups, using cutting-edge technology and instruction resources to further academic and research goals.

“When these doors open, the energy within the library will grow exponentially.”

The Learning Commons in Love Library includes 18 private study rooms, access to an ASKus service desk, a Huskertech help station for information technology, a Dunkin’ Donuts coffee and baked goods café, a One Button Studio where users can record presentations, computer access, a vending area, and a variety of open study spaces. The Learning Commons can accommodate about 500 people and also offers an outdoor plaza with additional seating.
