The Glenn Korff School of Music’s Jazz Orchestra will perform the program “All Together” at 7 p.m. April 30 at Storm Cellar, 3233 S. 13th St. in Lincoln. The performance is free and open to the public.

The Jazz Orchestra, under the direction of Greg Simon, associate professor of composition, will perform three world premieres at the performance, including one commission.

Two of the premieres are by Korff School student composers, “Syncing …” by John Kosch and “Here’s to Hoping” by Evan Lebouef. The program also includes the world premiere of Stephen P. Harvey’s “Speed (The World in Slow Motion),” commissioned by the UNL Jazz Orchestra.

The program also includes “All Together” by Dylan Canterbury, “Told You So” by Bill Holman, “Black, Brown and Beautiful” by Oliver Nelson and “For Ones Lost” by Sherisse Rogers.

“The big band tradition has always been a living one. For its entire history, the big band has focused on reflecting its moment in time — politically, socially and artistically,” Simon said. “So my job, as a bandleader, is to balance honoring the tradition with fostering new contributions to it. This program is so exciting because it features two of our own composers alongside a young master of the medium, all contributing music nobody has heard before. It’s a program that I think showcases the big band at its best, with its heritage right alongside its future.”
